Dental Implants

Dental implants are permanent replacements for missing teeth that look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. They consist of a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone, acting as an artificial root. Once healed, a crown, bridge, or denture is attached to the implant, restoring your smile and bite with exceptional stability and aesthetics.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

Dental implants are the most advanced and durable solution for replacing missing teeth. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges, implants provide long-term support and help preserve your jawbone structure. With proper care, they can last a lifetime.

Key Benefits of Dental Implants:

  • Natural Look & Feel: Matches the appearance and function of your real teeth.
  • Permanent & Secure: Fixed in place—no slipping or clicking like dentures.
  • Preserves Jawbone: Prevents bone loss and maintains facial structure.
  • Restores Chewing Power: Eat your favorite foods with confidence.
  • No Impact on Nearby Teeth: Unlike bridges, implants don’t rely on adjacent teeth for support.

Types of Dental Implants

  • Single Tooth Implant: Replaces one missing tooth with an implant and crown.
  • Implant-Supported Bridge: Replaces multiple missing teeth using fewer implants.
  • Full Arch Implants (All-on-4/All-on-6): Replace all upper or lower teeth with a fixed prosthesis.
  • Implant-Retained Dentures: Stabilize removable dentures with 2–4 implants.

The Dental Implant Procedure

  1. Initial Consultation: We assess your oral health, take X-rays or a CBCT scan, and create a treatment plan.
  2. Implant Placement: A small titanium post is surgically inserted into the jawbone under local anesthesia.
  3. Healing Period: The implant fuses with the bone over 3–6 months in a process called osseointegration.
  4. Restoration: Once healed, a crown, bridge, or denture is attached to complete your smile.

Post-Surgical Instructions: Dental Implants

1. Bleeding Control

  • Bite gently on the provided gauze for 30–45 minutes.
  • If bleeding continues, replace the gauze and bite with firm pressure.
  • Slight oozing is normal for the first 24–48 hours.
  • Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw for the first 24 hours to prevent dislodging the blood clot.

2. Swelling & Bruising

  • Swelling may occur and typically peaks 48–72 hours post-surgery.
  • Apply ice packs to the outside of the cheek (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) for the first 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours, switch to warm compresses if needed.

3. Pain Management

  • Take prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication as directed.
  • Start pain medication before the numbness fully wears off for better control.

4. Oral Hygiene

  • Do not rinse, brush, or floss the surgical site for the first 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours, gently rinse with warm saltwater 3–4 times per day.
  • Avoid commercial mouthwashes unless recommended by your dentist.
  • Begin gentle brushing of surrounding teeth after 24 hours, but avoid the surgical area.

5. Diet

  • Stick to a soft diet for the first few days (e.g., yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes).
  • Avoid hot, spicy, crunchy, or hard foods.
  • Drink plenty of fluids but avoid alcohol, carbonated drinks, and hot beverages for 48 hours.

6. Activity

  • Rest for the remainder of the day.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 48–72 hours after surgery.

7. Smoking & Alcohol

  • Do not smoke or use tobacco for at least 72 hours (preferably 7–14 days).
  • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours.

8. Antibiotics & Medication

  • Take all prescribed medications as directed.
  • Complete the full course of antibiotics even if you feel fine.

9. Follow-Up

  • Attend your follow-up appointment as scheduled.

10. When to Call the Clinic

  • Excessive bleeding that doesn’t stop with pressure.
  • Severe or increasing pain after 3 days.
  • Fever over 101°F (38.5°C).
  • Signs of infection (pus, foul taste, swelling, redness).
  • Implant feels loose.

Are You a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are suitable for most healthy adults who have lost one or more teeth. You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Have one or more missing teeth
  • Have healthy gums and sufficient bone
  • Are in good general health (non-smoker preferred)
  • Are committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits

In cases of bone loss, a bone graft may be required before implant placement. Our team will guide you through all options during your consultation.
