Dental Extraction
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. While preserving natural teeth is always our priority, sometimes a tooth is too damaged, infected, or problematic to be saved. In such cases, an extraction becomes necessary to protect your overall oral health. Our team performs both simple and complex (surgical) extractions with a focus on comfort, safety, and fast recovery.
When Is a Tooth Extraction Needed?
- Severe tooth decay or infection that cannot be treated with root canal therapy
- Advanced gum disease causing tooth looseness
- Broken or fractured teeth that are beyond repair
- Impacted wisdom teeth causing pain or infection
- Overcrowding before orthodontic treatment
- Preparation for dentures or implants
Types of Extractions We Perform
- Simple Extraction: Performed on teeth that are visible and easily accessible. Done under local anesthesia.
- Surgical Extraction: Required for impacted, broken, or partially erupted teeth. May involve minor gum or bone removal.
- Wisdom Tooth Extraction: Removal of third molars that are often misaligned, impacted, or painful.
What to Expect During the Procedure
- Consultation & X-rays: We examine the tooth and surrounding structures to plan the safest approach.
- Local Anesthesia: The area is numbed to ensure you feel no pain during the procedure.
- Tooth Removal: The tooth is gently loosened and extracted. For surgical cases, a small incision may be made.
- Post-Extraction Care: We’ll provide you with detailed instructions to ensure a smooth and speedy recovery.
Post-Extraction Care Tips
- Keep the gauze pad in place for 30–45 minutes to control bleeding.
- Avoid rinsing, spitting, or using a straw for 24 hours.
- Use cold compresses to reduce swelling.
- Take prescribed pain medication and antibiotics as directed.
- Stick to soft foods for the first few days.
- Attend your follow-up visit, if scheduled.
Tooth Replacement Options After Extraction
In many cases, we’ll recommend replacing the extracted tooth to maintain your bite alignment and prevent bone loss. Replacement options include:
- Dental Implants
- Bridges
- Partial or full dentures
We'll guide you through your best options based on your needs, budget, and long-term goals.
